Description

311: Nature of the Early Childhood Learner.
Goal: To study the learner, ages 3 to 10; to gain understanding of appropriate curricula and specific skills necessary to teach young children.
Content: Characteristics, needs, stages of physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development of young children. Emphasis on creating learning experiences appropriate to developmental characteristics. Study of multicultural issues, levels of learning, multiple group instruction, paraprofessional involvement, parent/teacher communication, and use of technology in instruction. 15 hours of field experiences are required.
Taught: Spring.
Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program.
Credit: 3 hours
